Baking time: 45-55 min.
Decoration time: 40 min.
Difficulty: Moderate
What you'll need:
- 1 bag M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for Valentine’s Day
- 2 16-oz. boxes pound cake mix
- 2 16-oz. cans vanilla frosting
- Red food coloring
- 1 9 x 13-inch pan(s)
- Resealable plastic bag
- Printable template
What to do:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Prepare both cake mixes according to the package directions. Pour the batters into the prepared baking pan, and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from oven, transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. For easy cutting, make the cake a day before, or place the cooled cake in the freezer for an hour before cutting. Arrange all three sizes of the printable heart templates on the cake, and cut out one of each.
- Using the red food coloring, tint one can of the vanilla frosting a light pink. Spoon 1/2 cup of the remaining vanilla frosting into a resealable plastic bag; set it aside.
- Cover the largest and smallest heart cakes with the pink frosting; set them aside. Cover the remaining heart cake with the vanilla frosting. Place the cakes in the freezer for 15 minutes before assembling.
- Place the largest heart cake on a serving platter. Using the photo as a guide, stack the remaining heart cakes, ending with the smallest on top. Arrange red M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for Valentine’s Day on the outer edges of each cake.
- Snip a corner of the resealable plastic bag, and randomly pipe dots of frosting all over the cakes. Then, place an M&M’S® piece on top of each one.
TIP: If the tops of the cakes are slightly rounded, trim them so they are flat!
