Smilin’ Bat Snacks
Take a bite outta’ these happy bats before they bite you!
Prep time: 30 min.
Difficulty: Moderate
What you'll need:
- 1 bag M&M'S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for Halloween
- 4 8-inch pieces plastic wrap
- Clear packing tape or non-toxic glue
- 2 8 x 10-inch sheets black craft foam or construction paper
- 4 large black pom-poms, cotton ball or 1-1/2-inch construction paper circle
- 1 8 x 10-inch sheet craft foam or construction paper
- Scissors
- 4 sticks, chopsticks or thin cardboard dowel
- 1 large foam-carved pumpkin
- Pencil or Phillips-head screwdriver, optional
- Printable templates
What to do:
- Lay out the plastic wrap squares on a flat surface.
- Place 1/2 cup of M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for Halloween in the center of each square. Gather the sides of the wrap up and around the candy, twisting it tightly to form into a ball. Secure with tape.
- Using the printable templates, cut 4 bat wings from the black craft-foam. Tape a set of wings to the backside of each candy ball.
- Tape a pom-pom onto the opposite side of each candy ball. Glue eyes and a smile on each pom-pom.
- Tape a cookie stick to the back of each bat.
- Arrange the bats on the pumpkin by pressing the cookie sticks into the pumpkin’s flesh. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to aid you if necessary.
Tip: If you’re using a foam pumpkin that’s hollow, you’ll need to use an extra dab of glue to secure the cookie stick.
For the home: This craft makes four bats, but if you’re having a Halloween party with a few more children, make a bat for each one and then use this pumpkin craft as a centerpiece. As the kids leave, have each one of them pick one bat to take home. For balance, press the sticks into the pumpkin close to the surface.
For the classroom or neighborhood gathering: Make a bat for each child, and arrange them on top of a large construction paper pumpkin or full moon.
