Caterpillar Crawl
Let the kids take turns wiggling their colorful caterpillars.
Prep time: 15 min.
Decoration time: 20 min.
Difficulty: Easy
What you'll need:
- 8 green or black chenille pipe cleaners
- 8 fat pencils
- 16 goggle eyes
- Non-toxic glue
- Magnetic tape or small magnets
- 8 horseshoe magnets
- 8 sheets brightly colored cardstock (10 inches square)
- Crayons
- Glitter
- Double-stick tape
For the caterpillar prizes:
- 2 bags M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies
- 8 sheets plastic wrap (12 inches square)
- 8 sheets yellow cellophane (12 inches square)
- 8 sheets green cellophane (12 inches square)
- Tape
- 24 strands (10-inch) curling ribbon
- 16 goggle eyes
- Non-toxic glue
To make the caterpillar prizes:
- Before the game, make one candy caterpillar for each person.
- Lay the plastic wrap flat on a table. Spread 1 cup of M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies in a line down the center of the wrap. Roll the wrap around the candy, shaping it into a rope.
What to do:
- Arrange all of the project crafts in the center of a table. Gather the kids, and set them around the table.
- Give each child a pipe cleaner and a pencil. Tightly wrap the pipe cleaner around the pencil. Glue two goggle eyes on one end of the pipe cleaner. Glue 3-1/2 pieces of magnetic tape (or small magnets) along one side of each curled pipe cleaner. Remove the pipe cleaners from the pencils, and set aside.
- Then give each child one piece of cardstock. Let them use their imagination, and create a garden path using crayons, glitter, and any other items they can find outside, such as twigs, pinecones, rocks or moss. Set them aside to dry.
- Now gather the kids and, one at a time, let them entertain the group by wiggling their caterpillar down the garden path, using the horseshoe magnet on the opposite side of the cardstock!
